Essential Oils For Sleep & Relaxation

In this article, you will learn what are the best essential oils for sleep and relaxation.  Don't think you're the only one having trouble sleeping.  In fact, the LA Times reports:

“According to the Centers for Disease Control, as many as 70 million U.S. adults suffer from sleep disorders or sleep deprivation.  Only a third of Americans get the government's recommended seven to nine hours of sleep a night.”

If you are suffering like so many of us you know how frustrating it can be. Beyond tired, you crave a good night's sleep.

And it just doesn't happen.

Essential Oils For Sleep

Some are so frustrated, they can only see two solutions:

“Lobotomy or death.”

Hold on. Before you take drastic measures, we have a much simpler answer. Something safe, inexpensive, and scientifically proven to work.

You already know essential oils are great for boosting your immune system. And they help you detox.

But there's great news for all of us who have spent our nights tossing and turning and then spent our days tired and frustrated and yawning like crazy.

Using essential oils for sleep really works.

Let's find out more:

Using Essential Oils For Sleep Works

It's startling to realize that some people still doubt how effective essential oils can be in treating health issues. Some view essential oils as a fad or a gimmick.

Or worse, they think of essential oils as new age gibberish.

The truth, of course, is that essential oils work. Experts and scientists agree.

Fox News Health reports on using lavender essential oils for sleep:

“It's been shown to promote relaxation and sleep. Try adding a few drops to the bath, or on your pillow to help you unwind and fall asleep.”

Scientific studies prove essential oils help people get better rest.  Take it from The National Institutes of Health:

“Lavender has been suggested as an excellent natural remedy to treat insomnia and improve the sleep quality.”

Single-blind randomized studies investigating the effectiveness of lavender odor on the quality of sleep showed that lavender improved the mean scores of sleep quality.

And it's not just lavender. There are a number of essential oils proven to reduce stress and anxiety.

You can try using a Citrus bergamia essential oil for example. The studies prove that it works:

“Aromatherapy to improve mood and the mild symptoms of stress disorders, such as anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, is supported by both the physiological and psychological effects.”

Sleeping Pills are Risky

Essential oils work naturally to help you get a deep sleep. You wake up well rested, clear headed, and ready for an amazing day. Plus, they are safe.

The FDA confirms using essential oils are safe.

On the other hand, sleeping pills are anything but. Sleeping pills have a number of side effects.

The FDA confirms that even more side effects will emerge as more Americans use sleeping pills more frequently.

As the independent, not-for-profit, evidence-based journal Medicinewise Living explains, there are many risks associated with taking sleeping pills.

Some of these are downright frightening:

  • Sleeping pills can cause side effects. For sleeping pills, potential side effects include drowsiness, light headedness, memory loss and poor concentration.
  • It's quite easy to become dependent on some types of sleeping pills, making it difficult to stop taking them without having rebound sleep problems or unpleasant withdrawal effects.
  • People may wake up feeling groggy, or have a hangover, after using some sleeping pills
  • Sleeping pills can make you feel drowsy, lethargic, less alert or less able to focus the next day.
  • Some sleeping pills can cause temporary memory loss.
  • Sleeping pills that make you feel groggy the next morning can increase your chance of falling or having an accident.
  • You may need to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while taking sleeping pills. Even the next day.
  • Mixing sleeping pills with alcohol, illegal drugs, or other medicines can further increase your risk of experiencing side effects.
  • Some sleeping pills prevent you from sleeping as deeply as you need to in order to feel rested the next day.
  • Sleeping pills can lead to sleepwalking and other abnormal sleep-related behaviors.

In a study on sleeping pills the FDA found some other hard facts:

“The most widely prescribed sleeping pills can cause strange behavior like driving and eating while asleep.”

And, “reports of unusual side effects have grown as the use of sleeping pills increases.”

Hard facts to swallow. So don't.

It almost sounds better to deal with insomnia. Besides drowsiness, bizarre behavior, and the risks of getting hooked, the scientific facts state:

The pills themselves can prevent you from getting the sleep you so desperately need.

Keeping this in mind we hope you see why essential oils for sleep are a much better option than sleeping pills.

Sleeping Pills are Expensive

It's true: those sleeping pills may be actually costing us rest and relaxation.

Those of us who've tried sleeping pills often wake up groggy.

But they're costing us more than sleep.

Sleeping pills are very expensive compared to using essential oils. Knowing where and how to buy essential oils makes them a much better value.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, “About 9 million American adults use prescription sleeping pills to help get a decent night's rest.”

That's “bad news for the multibillion-dollar sleeping pill industry,” the LA Times reports.

We may not need them anymore.

Essential Oils Cost Much Less

Not only are those pills not working. They're expensive.

We're paying too much for something that doesn't even work.

Think your pocketbook is getting hit hard? What about the economic impact to your work life.

Now expand those personal numbers. Lack of sleep is a global issue.

And the numbers are staggering. The Chicago Tribune reports:

“Lack of sleep exacts an economic toll of more than half a trillion dollars per year in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and Japan alone. The lack of sleep in these countries and across the globe affects work, business and, as a result, the world's economy.”

Using essential oils for sleep can improve your overall well-being naturally and safely.
